All fruit for Aramis reds come from their stunning 64 acre vineyard, located at the bottom of McLaren Vale, just 2km away from the coast of the Gulf St Vincent. The steep southerly aspect protects the vines from the intense afternoon sun and allows the entire vineyard to enjoy the cooling sea breeze that comes in from the south west. With one of the coolest vineyard sites in McLaren Vale Aramis are able to produce elegant wines that balance rich primary fruit flavours with the characteristic earthiness and minerality of the region.

The vineyards are planted exclusively with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes - the sole objective is to produce the best possible wines that reflect the unique vineyard site.

The wine is made along traditional lines and spends 15 months in the barrel. The oak is 95% French and predominantly second or third use, allowing the unique characters and flavours of the fruit to come through. To maintain this pure fruit impression the wine is neither fined nor filtered prior to bottling.

The 2009 harvest was a moderate and mild growing and picking season. A brief heatwave in January was followed by cooler day/night time temperatures in February, allowing the grapes to reach optimum ripeness. Varietal characters were very strong and the overall assessment was extremely high.

Aramis Vineyards is helping to create a reputation for serious McLaren Vale Cabernet. Elegant and structured, this is a thoroughbred of a wine, with dark rich fruit balanced by smoky cigar box and mocha notes. Firm tannins and a fine acid structure add depth and finesse, leading to a deliciously savoury lingering finish. This wine is already drinking beautifully but will continue to improve over the next 5-7 years.
