Great value Barossa Valley Shiraz from a small and understated producer. Plum and clove spice on the nose. The palate is full and velvety with dark black fruits and big round tannins.
Awards and Accolades
94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "It hits Barossa shiraz firmly in the centre of the bat. It’s a sweet-spot wine. It’s blackberried and dense, coffeed and mouthfilling, but it also offers various nuances of salted licorice and earth; it’s not a one trick pony. It promises plenty of warm-hearted pleasure as a result."
Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times “Charles and Jennie Cimicky’s winery and vineyards are at Lyndoch, in the slightly cooler south of the warm Barossa Valley. Their reds, starting with the inexpensive Trumps shiraz, deliver typical Barossa generosity and softness without going over the top on oak, tannin or alcohol. As Trumps 2014 demonstrates, for Cimicky it’s all about capturing ripe, mouthfilling fruit flavours and the Barossa’s tender tannins. The ripe, supple fruit and softness give great drinking pleasure right now.”
91 Points - Mike Frost, Courier Mail "There’s ripe blackberry fruit on the nose and palate of this Barossa shiraz, with a touch of spice and vanilla oak, leading through to ripe, persistent tannins on the finish."
From the Winery
Established by the Cimicky family in 1972, this quality boutique winery has been under the direction of Charles and Jennie Cimicky since 1984. Their philosophy is to remain a small family-owned company producing strictly limited red wines that are complex and individual in style and which are, using the most innovative wine-making technology available, carefully controlled from vineyard to bottle. The overwhelming success of Cimicky Wines over the years has established “cult status” for this somewhat shy, retiring and most definitely elusive wine-maker.
Vintage 2014 will be remembered as the driest, quickest and earliest in memory. The growing season was extremely variable with exceptionally low rainfall with Spring temperatures occasionally exceeding 30”C. These conditions led to poor fruit-set but, although yields were generally low, quality remained high. Reds in particular now show excellent balance of both flavour and tannins and rich deep colour.
Cimicky 2014 Trumps Shiraz was produced from 60% estate Shiraz and 40% from Marananga. The grapes were de-stemmed, hand-sorted and ruptured prior to entering traditional open top fermenters for extended active ferment. This slow and gentle process allowed full extraction of fl avour, colour and tannins. Maturation in both new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads preceded estate bottling in February 2015.
