Moates Lane Chardonnay.gif

James Halliday 5 Star Rated Vineyard!

Perfect food and a sessionable wine that over delivers quality fruit and endless lip smacking wine for years to come. A beautifully refined and well balanced Chardonnay with lovely complexity, finesse and texture leading to a clean lingering finish. The colour is delightfully bright straw green and beckons from the glass on the first pour. This Chardonnay shows intense aromas of fresh peaches, limes, grapefruit, guava, and hints of lemongrass. Oak contributed with creamy vanilla, butterscotch, white pepper and ash notes, enhancing its complexity and making a wonderful rich and creamy, textural Chardonnay that is a ripper at this price.

Sourced from 32 years old vines planted on rocky loam soils located on the Central eastern slopes of the Pyrenees ranges at 280 mt. The grapes were machine harvested early-March, crushed, destemmed and pressed into French and Hungarian oak barrels (5 years old). Fermentation took place over 12 days with selected yeast. The wine was kept on lees contact for a further 2 months. Finally, after eight months the wine was racked and stabilized (protein and tartrate) and prepared for bottling.
Food Matching
Enjoy lightly chilled with grilled barramundi, or kingfish, sashimi dishes, and fresh oysters.

Cellaring
A brilliant drop now with the potential to improve over several years.

James Halliday 5 Star Rated Vineyard

James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion
"The over-delivers to an even greater extent than the Growers Blend; it has clear varietal fruit expression on the well balanced, light to medium-bodied palate, with a slight infusion of French oak adding to the package."

The estate is located just outside the town of Avoca. This historic quaint town was a pioneer in the Gold Rush era shaping early Victoria in the 1850s and confirming its importance as an idyllic location for mining and agriculture.

It was a passion for the Barry family to break from the busy-ness of the big smoke and after considerable research, the property off Moates Lane was purchased and the first vines were planted (Trebbiano, Shiraz and Semillion) in 1970.

Over the next 25 years the vineyard delved deep into the commercial world of Victorian wine. Initially seeking co-operation from neighbouring vineyards such as Chateau Remy (now Blue Pyrenees) and Seppelts, Mount Avoca has grown to over 60 acres of diverse varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Franc all producing award winning wines
