Xanadu Chardonnay 2005 |
| |
|
|
The 2005 growing season began with a cold and wet winter, setting the vines up for good, even budburst. Spring was mild, berry size small and conditions at flowering were optimal - warm days with cool nights, making fruit set very good. The perfect conditions around harvest time allowed each batch of fruit to be picked at optimal physiological ripeness. The grapes were hand picked from select Margaret River vineyards, with the backbone of the blend being Estate grown (55%).
Tasting Notes...
Colour: Medium straw.
Bouquet: Complex and ripe pear and stone-fruits with spicy nutty/nougat tones in the background.
Palate: The clean, fresh palate offers nectarine and pear fruits well integrated with toasty oak. The firm ‘grapefruit-like’ acid compliments the texture derived from lees stirring, providing structure and balance to the wine.
'Quite aromatic, with some blossom aromas; light citrus, apple and stone fruit, with minimal oak; good length and finish. 91 Points' - James Halliday.
'Aromas of stonefruit, dried pear, citrus, cashew and a fair bit of spicy smoky clove-like oak. On the palate flavours of stonefruit, grapefruit, spicy smoky oak and some savoury lees derived flavours. The fruit is nice and ripe with a good level of intensity and the acidity is clean cut and fresh. No creamy malolactics. Finishes with grapefruit and smoky spicy savoury oak derived flavours. A very smart wine and one that offers excellent value. 91 Points' - Gary Walsh, winefront.com.au
