Concentrated aroma with notes of blackberries, blackcurrant & white pepper. The full bodied palate is rich with velvety tannins that bring length of dark berry & mocha flavours.
Deep red/purple. Very good colour. Fresh, bright, young, dark fruit aromas with distinct star anise and peppermint influences. Very aromatic, perfumed. Masses of sweet fruit in the mouth, deep and lush, jubey and almost opulent. Tannins are soft and ample, but are pushed into the background by the sheer depth of fruit. Great balance between fruit and structure here. Long term. Very good indeed.
Huon Hooke: 95/100 Gold, Royal Queensland Wine Show
Campbell Mattinson says: A single vineyard wine, remarkably enough. A wine with a proud history, both for its quality and its cellarability. Much loved by many Australian red wine drinkers. They’ve got this release right. Not too much, not too little. It’s all blackberry and saltbush, leather and chocolate – with peppercorns and gum leaf notes making an appearance. Fits the description of being ‘smooth’, but via the quality of fruit rather than by its oak. An excellent release of Metala White Label.
James Halliday says: 93 Good hue, though not especially deep; the fragrant, perfumed bouquet is of red and black fruits, French and American oak in the background; it has a fleshy palate with 15% alc, but just gets away with it thanks in no small measure to its supple, spicy array of tannins. A 60/40% blend, with 518,000 bottles made, exceeded only by the Í05 which yielded 526,000.
