  Chateau Moulin La Lagune 2007

Chateau Moulin La Lagune.gif
This wine has tremendous depth of dark red colour, this wine is perfumed and elegant, with aromas of cassis, plum tart and spicy, vanilla notes. On the palate, it has good depth and nice balance, with the spicy, savoury fruit character well integrated with the oak and ripe, supple tannins.

Chateau La Lagune prides itself on traditional methods, exceptional quality and a very modern approach to marketability. That is to say that whilst they retain many of their French idiosyncrasies, their wines are priced in such a way as to make them accessible to a broader audience. In short, these are some of the greatest value French wines available.

Moulin La Lagune is sourced from 15 year old vines and is the Chateau’s 2nd wine. Made with the same fastidiousness as for the Chateau’s premier wine, it is a blend of approximately 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, and 10% cabernet franc.

Château La Lagune has ridden the vicissitudes of fashion that have swept over the Médoc in the past 30 years. Now owned by the Frey family, La Lagune has seen a return to form, brought about by lower yields and better work in the vineyard. It is the southernmost classed growth of all the Médoc and one of just five in the 1855 classification lying outside the main communes of St Estèphe, St Julien, Pauillac and Margaux (it is a Third Classed Growth, or Troisième Cru Classé). The estate covers 80 hectares of vineyard planted on gravel slopes, of which the best face north/south. The well-draining gravel are in fact small white pebbles deposited by the Garonne river during the Tertiary era. The mitigating effect of the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic mean the climate is mild and not too rainy.
