Konrad Marlborough Pinot Noir 2008 |

Mid ruby in colour. The nose is complex showing ripe dark fruits, prunes, plums, dark cherries accented by a smoky lift from barrel fermentation. The palate is soft and generous with ripe, sweet, dark fruit characters filling the mouth. The tannins are supple and finely grained giving depth and length to the mouth-feel. Soft acidity and good fruit weight make this wine suitable for early drinking while retaining enough structure for mid-term cellaring.
Hand harvested from the family owned Waihopai Valley and Wairau Valley sites. Soil in the vineyard is of stony silt with loam topsoil and free draining. Canopy Management is a two cane vertical shoot positioning trellis with shoot and crop thinning.
Destemmed without crushing and gravity fed into open topped, hand plunged fermenters. Cold soak for 7 days, wild fermentation 7 days, 7 days post ferment maceration. A small portion was drained off skin after 10 days to complete fermentation and maturation for 10 months in Burgundian coopered barriques.
