Trophy Winner - Best Pinot Noir - 2009 National Cool Climate Wine Show
"Magnificent pinot noir. Taut, intense and persistent, with signifcant fruit weight and yet brightness at every turn. Spicy, cedary oak plays a heavy role but the wine’s inherent fruit power is up to the task. Greatness beckons. In-built complexity. Power. Length. 96 Points." - Campbell Mattinson.
"Very bright colour; monolithic in proportion with more of everything, handled with great control; dark plum, bright cherry, allspice, game and charry oak intermingle for a heady mix of aromas; the palate relays this conviction with real depth and power on entry, and lightness returns as the flavours cascade from start to finish; needs much time, but will richly reward patience. 96 Points." - James Haliday.
This wine is made up of barrels which were selected as clearly superior at the time of blending and bottling. The wine has rich powerful aromas of spice and dark cherry, combined with charry oak, secondary barrel ferment mocha/coffee characters that will integrate further to become more Burgundian like with bottle age. On the palate the wine has rich ripe fruit, firm fine grained tannins helping provide excellent texture and length. An outstanding Pinot that will reward careful cellaring, 6-10 years.
