Allegrini Valpolicella Classico DOC 2008 |

65% Corvina Veronese, 30% Rondinella, 5% Molinara.
They’ve been making top notch table wines in Valpolicella since the Ancient Greek era, the name thought to be a blend of Latin and Greek meaning ‘Valleys of Cellars’, though no one quite knows for sure. What is known is that the wines produced there are light and fragrant, sometimes served slightly chilled, are always red, and often ready to be consumed within a few weeks of harvest.
2008 marked a return to normalcy as far as the vegetative cycle was concerned. After several years of very early ripening, in 2008 the harvest started in late September. However, it was abnormal in the sense that there was substantially heavy rainfall in the early stages of growth between April-May that provoked an increase in the recorded number of downy mildew attacks in Valpolicella between April and May. Additionally, there were a number of hailstorms which, fortunately, only minimally affected the vineyards. Rapid and careful management of the vineyards ensures a significant reduction in the impact of unfavorable climatic events, thereby permitting the production of enjoyable, well-balanced wines. From September onwards, climatic conditions were perfect, with no rainfall, good sun exposure and a considerable difference between day and night temperatures. The perfect amount of daylight hours enabled the grapes to complete their ripening cycle. As in 2004 and 2006, we were able to produce a wine that will certainly be appreciated for its fine character, elegance and richness of aromas, as well as for their storage potential.
The perfect accompaniment to Italian antipasti, soups, pasta dishes and other dishes typical of the Mediterranean cuisine. Also pairs well with roasted and grilled white meats. Ideal as a summer red to drink with fish dishes. While this wine is meant to be consumed while young, to enjoy its aromatic qualities to the fullest extent, it is suggested that it age for 2-3 years. Serve at 16°C (61°F) and open the bottle a short time before consuming.
