Brokenwood 3 Sovereigns Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2011

Brokenwood 3 Sovereigns Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2012.gif

Brokenwood maybe one of the most famous Hunter Valley wineries but its pursuit of fine wine has taken them all over the country. This red blend is a juicy wine that shows off the best of McLaren Vale and suits any kind of red meat or mature cheeses. Cabernet lends cassis and cedar while Merlot exudes generous dark berries and soft tannins. It’s a rounded mouthful of structured fruit that would make an ideal guest at a lazy Sunday lunch.

A medium bodied colour but with lovely vibrant purple hues. Lifted red berry Cabernet Sauvignon and cedar/tobacco fruit aromas. Background sweet oak adds to the arresting bouquet. The blend then just takes of and includes succulent a Shiraz component which adds body and richness to the palate and pepper/spice flavours. The Merlot is just one big old juicy, mulberry component that fills the mid palate and heightens the overall lush length of this wine wonderfully.
Mainly aged in older oak and the ripe fruit tannins provide length and balance. A drink now style that will further soften with medium term bottle maturation. Excellent fruit flavours and balance being the features that will be maintained under the screw cap packaging.

James Halliday says:
Medium to full-bodied; clean blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit; neatly balanced, relatively long finish.

An excellent colour with medium to deep density and youthful purple tints evident. One of the more pronounced tobacco/cedar noses we’ve had – classic Claret is one way of describing it. Blue fruit characters and background vanillin oak. Very sweet entry to the palate and soft ripe tannins carry the finish. This is a delightful Cabernet/Merlot with the fruit characters to the fore. This wine will reward with further cellaring.
