Dominio De Ugarte Rioja Reserva 2006 |

The inky black colour and gamey, leathery bouquet hint at the maturity and concentration of this wine while the palate delivers a smoothly structured well integrated flavour of dry spice and stewed plums. The tannins are firm and the finish dry.
Rioja is a region in northern Spain famous for producing rich robust red wines. The predominant variety is Tempranillo; this wine is 95% with 5% Graciano. The vineyard is 46 years old with low yielding bush vines producing deeply coloured long living wines. This wine has had 12 months French oak barrel maturation and 3 years bottle aging. The bouquet is understated at first but with some breathing opens up to reveal intense iodine and mocha with a vanilla lift. The palate has obvious oak and savoury smoked meats with a spicy fruit pudding complexity. This is a big wine for hearty meat dishes or aged vintage cheese.
