Want to taste some of old World Italian style with some up from fruit weight and depth from the Pyrenees? This Sangiovese is a star! A Bright medium red meets the eye from the get go. This classic Italian variety grows incredibly well in the Pyrenees. Medium red in colour with a delectable savoury flavour hints of light mint and basil, the palate has layers of sweet fruit that wash the palate and keep the sense alive for the next sip. A small amount of Shiraz adds some sensational spice and weight while the distinctive natural fruit is highlighted by subtle oak and the finish is smooth with a clean lingering after taste.
This wine would be best served with spaghetti marinara, chicken cacciatore, creamy pizzas and casseroles.
Cellaring Brilliant now and can only get better with years.

From the Winery
Sourced from 15 years old vines planted on limestone and sandy gravel located on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees ranges at 300 mt. The grapes were machine harvested mid-April, crushed, destemmed and pressed into stainless tank. Fermentation took place over 12 days with selected yeast, after this the wine was transferred into French and American oak barrels (4& 5 years old). The wine was kept on lees contact for a further 4 months. Finally, after 20 months the wine was racked, stabilized and prepared for bottling.
The estate is located just outside the town of Avoca. This historic quaint town was a pioneer in the Gold Rush era shaping early Victoria in the 1850s and confirming its importance as an idyllic location for mining and agriculture.
It was a passion for the Barry family to break from the busy-ness of the big smoke and after considerable research, the property off Moates Lane was purchased and the first vines were planted (Trebbiano, Shiraz and Semillion) in 1970.
Over the next 25 years the vineyard delved deep into the commercial world of Victorian wine. Initially seeking co-operation from neighbouring vineyards such as Chateau Remy (now Blue Pyrenees) and Seppelts, Mount Avoca has grown to over 60 acres of diverse varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Franc all producing award winning wines
