The Gipsie Jack Wine Co are a breath of fresh air thanks to their down to earth approach to making wine. No pretenses or airs and graces here, just down to earth no nonsense wines from some of the oldest wine-making families in Langhorne Creek. This Shiraz is characteristically full bodied and spicy like so many reds of the region, making it suitable for robust, red meat dishes. Black cherry aromas with floral notes, before red fruits, earth and gentle tannins on the long finish.
This wine was first made to help out local growers - mates - who had lost their contracts with big corporate wineries at the start of the wine glut. John, Bill and Ben couldn't let the quality Langhorne Creek fruit go to waste and along with it, their friends' livelihoods. Hence the beginning of the Gipsie Jack Wine Company and the very first wine in the range, Gipsie Jack Shiraz.

James Halliday: 93 Part estate-grown from 60-year-old vines, and part contract-grown grapes. A complex wine, its main message the luscious Langhorne Creek red wine style so admired by Wolf Blass on his way to stardom, and part with a more savoury edge, the two combining to form a long, undulating palate. It seems a travesty that this wine should only command an $18 price tag. Exceptional value.
