I read the review below and could not wait to taste the wine! BOY! What a stonking good value Shiraz - These guys are over the top about delivering results and you will be amazed!
"The 2007 Shiraz was barrel-fermented and aged in predominantly American oak for 12 months. It offers up fragrant aromas of cedar, smoke, tar, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, opulent, and structured, this intense, well-balanced Shiraz will evolve for 2-3 years and drink well through 2016. It is an excellent value. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Winemakers for R Wines are Chris Ringland, Lisa Wetherell, Andrew Hercock, and John Hughes. It encompasses four familiar labels, Marquis Philips, 3 Rings, Roogle, and Bitch, along with 13 others created especially for R Wines. Needless to say, the packaging of these wines is amazingly creative but, more importantly, what is in the bottle consistently over-delivers from low-end to high-end. The Marquis Philips wines have established a six year track record of delivering a big bang for the buck. The wines are now made by a team put together by Dan Philips and Chris Ringland with absolutely no change in quality. Starting with the 2006 vintage, however, all of the fruit is sourced from McLaren Vale. The other change of note is that Merlot has been dropped from the program, primarily because of the difficulty of finding Merlot good enough to merit the M-P label. Marquis Philips is a collaboration between Australian winemakers Sarah and Sparky Marquis and USA importer Dan Philips to produce exceptional wines. Sparky and Sarah Marquis were the winemakers at Fox Creek when they met U.S. importer Dan Philips. The Marquises left to become consulting winemakers as soon as Fox Creek expanded. Philips worked with them on a number of projects, including Henry Drive, Parsons Flat, and most recently Shirvington, another standout new wine from McLaren Vale. The wines are crafted to show strong varietal definition on the nose and to have a palate structure with a distinctive hallmark of fruit length, ripe fine grain tannins and integrated balance of fruit weight, alcohol, acid and tannins. The wines are styled so that they can be consumed for both the present and also to be able to mature into the future, they will always, both young and aged, show these balanced rich fruit characteristics throughout the palate. The mythological creature appearing on the front label is the Roogle (a kanagroo/eagle) representing the lasting friendship and the shared destiny that link Australia and the US. The philosophy behind Marquis Phillips wines is to develop rich fruit depth, structure and distinctive varietal characteristics at an everyday drinking prices.
