Coming from one of Australia's largest exporters, this follow on from the award winning (3 medals) 2004 wine and is a sensational drink for every night of the week. Bronze – 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition; Bronze – 2005 Royal Queensland Wine Show; Bronze – 2005 Rutherglen Wine Show.
Delicious ripe plums and juicy redcurrants dominate the nose and palate, along with hints of chocolate and some really intriguing christmassy fruit spice. Judicious oak handling adds wonderful complexity to the wine and at this price is simply irresistible.
Conditions were mostly very good with hot, dry weather. Coupled with the ongoing drought, flavour intensity in the grapes developed with abandon producing smaller yields with full robust flavours,
The grapes for this Shiraz were picked and crushed during the cool of night, thus ensuring the retention of varietal character, while modern winemaking techniques were employed throughout. Fermentation took place in rotary fermenters, giving the wine a denser, richer colour and allowing for improved flavour extraction. Softer tannins are also a result of this process. Careful attention was also paid to the oak selection for the Shiraz. This wine was aged on American oak for approximately 12 months, giving the wine a noticeable, but not an excessive oak influence. The inclusion of some central Victorian fruit into the blend has boosted both the colour and the intensity of flavour. Food Recommendations: Blue Reef Shiraz pairs well with blue-veined and other strong cheeses, tomato-based pastas, hearty game dishes, juicy pepper steak, and roast leg of lamb with rosemary.
