I love to be satisfied - from start to finish and indeed stimulated at the same time that I have made an astute purchase of wine that over delivers on all fronts. This wine simply does it in spades.
The aroma is dominated here by dark rich fruit, with clean, bright red cherry - berry and richer blackberries with just a hint of earthiness. These are complimented in the mouth with subtle, mouth filling tannins, sumptuous layers of warming blend of mock, blood plum and spice and a subtle oak component. The overlay simply collides to provide a perfect full picture that glides through the mouth and stimulates the sense.
A fair chunk of the Barossa’s reputation as a wine region is built on the back of Shiraz, and rightly so, it’s the Bordeaux to our France. Just without all that history and French-ness, which is not to say it is lacking in any je ne sais quoi. Buy up , save some and drink some now to reward your self!
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion: 92 A relaxed and welcoming wine with a mix of gently spicy black and red fruits on the bouquet and light to medium-bodied palate; has good length bequeathed by the vintage.
PAST ACCOLADES AND AWARDS: 2014 China Wine and Spirits Awards, Double Gold Maranga Wine Show, Trophy Winner
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front: Not a lot of oak here and that’s not a bad thing. Indeed there’s a ring of authenticity here. It tastes pure, black, like coal, like bitumen and blackberry. Warm alcohol through the finish makes it a monty for depth-of-winter drinking.
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion: 95 (2010 Vintage) Good red-purple; a prime example of a great Barossa Valley vintage, the bouquet fragrant, the palate elegant and medium-bodied, supple and filled to the brim with perfectly ripened black fruits; the freshness of that fruit is aided by subtle, fine tannins and integrated oak. Excellent value.
