This is a great example of the whole Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove metaphor. There’s all the boldness of black fruit ripe and rich Shiraz but with a warm & fuzzy edge – like a bear hug. And with the weather beginning its annual slide into why-am-I-even-out-of-bed temperatures, I’ll take what I can get. Warm dark plum and spice carry from the nose into the mouth, with a lively and rich satisfying palate of red berries, fine tannins and a medium white pepper with a soft finish. The wine lasts and layers nicely having perfect weight for most foods and certainly good conversation.
This is a wine that begs to be drunk, preferably somewhere with good heating, and good company.
