Wine Background In taming the rugged, steep slopes of his McLaren Vale property Tintara in 1862, founder Dr Alexander Kelly was presented with quite a challenge in planting his vineyard. A pioneer in viticulture, Dr Kelly chose to work with the terrain, planting each vine to match the contours of the land, in terraced vineyard rows. Such were the curves of these vineyards, they became known as 'Horseshoe Rows'.
