This wine has a brilliant, attractive golden-yellow colour. It emanates fruity aromas (peaches,pears, apricots) and very biscuity notes (brioche, honey, almonds, hazelnuts). After a few minutes, the bouquet develops, leading to hints of sweet spices and with the fruity notes taking on a more candied flavour.
In the mouth, the wine is flavoursome and full. The Pinot Noir grapes, the majority variety in this wine, provide strength and structure, while the finish, where the Chardonnay plays its role perfectly, remains fresh and clean. In good conditions, the Vintage 2004 can be kept for 10 to 15 years, during which time it will develop complexity and aromatic richness.

Nick Stock: 92 This is an open and more cuddly vintage for Veuve, showing plenty of fruit with lemon rind, apple, red fruits and all the toasted nuts and richness you expect from Veuve. There's plenty of autolysis here, but plenty more to come if you hang onto this. Dosage weighs in through the finish as per the house style, and there's a toasty, biscuity afterburn that gives the illusion of reserve wine. Speaks decidedly more of Veuve than the vintage for now.
