This Chardonnay is produced from fruit grown exclusively in Rochford’s Yarra Valley vineyard and it’s a beautifully-crafted expression of the variety that’s guaranteed to gain a permanent place on your favourites list. The resulting wine features powerful, complex and multi-layered aromas of white and green fruits, melon and nectarine with funky barrel ferment and cashew-like richness. The bright, generous palate has harmonious stonefruit, hints of pineapple and generous cashew complexity. Shows a Chablis-like firmness which will ensure it develops beautifully in the medium term.
Accolades and Awards: Winner - Two Trophies - 2013 Victorian Wine Show: Best Oak Matured White and Best Table White Wine. "Rich and intense fruit and beautifully balanced. A traditional Chardonnay in both style and character, which could see plenty of cellar time. Added weight from barrel stirring adds to the fruit length."
James Halliday: 95 From a single estate block, wild yeast barrel-fermented and matured in those barrels before transfer to tank for 6 months on fine lees. This is the most generous and richly flavoured of the Rochford '12 Chardonnays, its point of difference coming from the vineyard, not the vinification, other than wild yeast fermentation. It provides flavour with finesse, length with balance, the overall flavour profile and structure in the heartland of Yarra chardonnay.
Past Accolades and Awards: James Halliday: 95 From Rochford's 30-year-old, steeply sloping, vineyard on Briarty Road, wild yeast barrel fermented in French oak (25% new), matured in those barrels for 12 months, then a further six months in tank. A very elegant wine, with perfectly ripened varietal fruit, and the length for which the best Yarra Valley chardonnays are known.
