This wine was crafted to enjoy in its youth. To let the vibrancy of green melons and pears, citrus rind and more spicy, jasmine-florals, and a pure acid line work their wonders on you palate. To let the definitive citrus notes caress the inside of your nose.
Awards and Accolades
92 Points, Special Value Wine - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Offering exceptional value for money, this grigio's genetics lie in the lauded Hazeldene vineyard in Gladysdale. Pressed directly to a combination of tank and barrel, the autumnal fruits are bright while the texture boasts a skinsy detail and lees-derived smoky complexity, all belying the modest price."
91 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "Strong apple and lime leaf flavours with runs of spice and chalk. There’s a subtle smoky, oak-spiciness thing going on here though it’s so subtle we’re almost into power-of-suggestion territory. Apple flavours are both of the Granny Smith and red apple variety; the former adding a tart, refreshing crunchiness and the latter a pretty, more perfumed aspect. In any case it all combines to work a treat. Go forth and enjoy."
From the Winery
Oakridge Wines has been capturing the spirit of the Yarra Valley for more than three decades. Established near Seville in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Oakridge Wines began as a family company. A pioneer of the Upper Yarra Valley, Oakridge recognised the potential for making great wine on the rich, red, volcanic soils of the sub-region. The turn of the century saw Oakridge move to its location in Coldstream, and become a part of one of Australia’s larger wine companies. In recent times, Oakridge once again returned to family ownership.
Our Over the Shoulder wines are great examples of wines that typify varietal characteristics of the Yarra Valley. Wines which are fresh, vibrant and medium bodied. Low alcohol wines with intensity, marvellous tightness and sharp focus.
This Pinot Grigio was sourced from our Hazeldene vineyard in Gladysdale.
A warm, dry early season with ideal flowering conditions has resulted in excellent crops and strong varietal flavours.
