The 2012 Knappstein Hand Picked Riesling shows fine aromas of lemon peel and lime juice with distinct sweet spice highlights, a signature of the parcels of fruit grown within the Watervale district of the Clare Valley. Focused citrus flavours dominate the palate accompanied by layers of textural complexities. Knappstein’s commitment to hand picking produces a delicate wine displaying pristine flavours and textures.
VINTAGE The 2012 vintage period for Clare will be remembered as an amazing vintage for both whites and reds. No significant rain events were recorded throughout the region in the months of January and February. The soil profile was full after the average to above average winter rainfall, this allowed for a perfect start to the growing season with full canopies to guard against later sunburn. The combination of lower than expected crops and perfect growing conditions showed juices with great varietal characters along with high natural acidities with a wonderful delicacy due to balanced sugar levels.
VINEYARD The fruit is sourced from a selection of vineyards situated mainly around the Watervale sub-region of the Clare Valley, including our Ackland Vineyard. Vine ages range from approximately 10 - 30 years old.
