I wasn’t much of a Semillon fan, but this may well have converted me over to the white side. Gold in colour with a spring green colouring the nose shows only the lightest hint of toasty bottle ageing behind its refreshing citrus aroma. Showing all the characteristics of a perfectly matured Hunter Valley Semillon there is a nice balance between the flavours of core citrus and the smooth, languid texture. The result is fresh and vibrant but effortlessly so, it’ll go down like water, but taste so much better.
ACCOLADES & AWARDS:
MEDALS: 1 Silver, 2 Bronze
James Halliday, The Australian Wine Companion: 95 Gleaming straw-green; the bouquet immediately tells you this has reached the first level of maturity - the first plenitude, as Richard Geoffroy, Dom Perignon winemaker, would say. The palate is in lockstep with the bouquet, honey and lightly browned toast making an appearance, acidity an ever-present reminder there is no need to rush.
Tyson Stelzer: 92 This is a rich vintage for Stevens, reflecting the warmth of the 2010 summer. This adds tropical notes of paw paw and guava to its lemon and lime zest profile. Textural acidity keeps it all in check, and it finishes long.
