Ripe, juicy blackcurrant characters dominate the entry with obvious oak, firm tannins and layers of mint, cedar and chocolate building a full flavoured experience.
The intense black / red appearance is immediately captivating. The bouquet combines lashings of ripe, dark blackcurrants with delicate violets and earthy floral aromas which lead to a full bodied palate jumping with forest berries and herbs. The solid mid palate lends complexity and richness with toasty charred oak, vanilla and nutty spice. The finish is long and luxurious with finely grained tannins complimenting a hint of sweet dark chocolate. This is a wine with an assertive personality and is sure to command attention whenever you get the chance to relax and enjoy. Where possible I recommend opening the bottle and allow a little breathing time before pouring.
The Chris Hill Reserve wines are a collection of limited release, personal favourites that express an extra dimension of character and flavour. This wine was grown at the multi award winning Longview vineyard in the cool climate Adelaide Hills. Small batch winemaking and selected barrel maturation has combined to deliver a classic cool climate Cabernet with complexity and plenty of potential for long term cellar aging.
Staff Tasting: A fruit bomb full of plums and berries and all things nice; there is some dryness on the palate and for those who like their wine fruity, this is going to set the pulse racing. A few years in the cellar will see this wine come into its own with some fascinating complexity. Tasters: CN, MM, TE.
