Ketu Bay Chardonnay 2010 |

|
Beguiling and bright in the glass this pale straw, clean, inviting Chardonnay is part of the new guard heralding the change in smart, astute wine drinkers back to Chardonnay, revisiting & bringing back old world winemaking skills producing wonderful Chardonnays, as real winemaking statements that are not over wooded or worked.
This new age style fosters harmony between complex notes of nectarine and figs with some lovely spice from French Oak. The palate immediately engages the mind with structure of fruit, oak and spice combining to emerse you in joyous rapture of a Chardonnay that will stimulate the senses without foods and still be a wonderful all day drink for any social occasions. It is a wine that is long and fulfilling without ever being cloying and too rich or too developed. Perfect for scallops and fresh tagliatelle pasta with a cream chive sauce or fresh Schnapper and lime with some wonderfully rich (non heart foundation sponsored) potatoes Dauphin! Salute and Enjoy!
Staff Tasting: The 2009 Ketu Bay Chardonnay was a bit of an underground favourite amongst certain members of WBW staff and more than a few of our discerning customers. Dwarfed in popularity by its big Sauvignon Blanc cousin (our biggest ever selling wine), it kept sneaking out the door, making more than a few restaurant wine lists around town.
The 2010 takes everything we loved about the ’09 and gives it a gilded edge. Inviting on the nose with tender notes of passionfruit, buttered popcorn, peaches and olives, honeysuckle and orange blossom; the palate is surprisingly smooth, given the fruit salad it delivers, with a creamy banana overture that works in perfect union with the deft touch of acidity applied to the finish. If you’re looking for a Chardonnay to cross that bridge between Sauvignon Blanc and the marbled oak that this variety is known for, the 2010 may well be that wine. Wonderful stuff. Tasters: CN, BK, MM, MK, GC.
