Knappstein Chardonnay 2008 |
| |
|
|
The 2008 Chardonnay benifited from the cool February period. The grapes ripened slowly and wine displays subtle peach and melon characters. The palate shows full show yeasty characters from lees contact. The oak is very subtle allowing the fruit to dominate. The wine finishes with clean crisp acid.
Vintage: The 2008 vintage was a little warmer during January than 2007 but Febuary had near perfect ripening conditions.
Vineyard: The high Clare vineyards allow the grapes to maintain their structure as the flavour develops.
Winemaking: The wine is made with little manipulation to allow the fruit expression. The juice is cold settled prior to fermentation in older oak.The wine stays in contact with lees for 3-4 months.
