Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz 2005 |
| |
|
|
Vintage :: 2005 vintage followed a long dry and cooler than average summer. This ideal growing season initiated earlier than expected and above average maturities.
The near ideal conditions produced outstanding varietal flavours, very good fruit ripeness and rich, generous palate structures. Prodigy is made from grapes harvested off a small vineyard site that has consistently produced fruit of outstanding depth of fruit flavour and colour.
Nose :: A rich and complex array of fruit, oak and subtle maturation aromas. Attractive ripe raspberry & plum fruit with sweet anis and licorice spice tones. Sweet vanillin oak and subtle light roast coffee bean adds complexity to fruit aromas.
Palate :: An opulent palate structure, richly layered with ripe fruit, oak and maturation flavours that are seamlessly combined. Rich raspberry and plum fruit with sweet anis and licorice spices and lingering pepper are a feature. Soft and fine lingering tannin are in harmony with the palate structure. *Tasting notes provided by Katnook Estate.
“sexy, exotic oak tones. Inky violet colour. Exotic, oak-spicy bouquet of blackberry and cassis liquer, star anise, mocha and pungent floral oils. Sweet, fat and velvety, with lush berry liqueur, kirsch, candied licorice, vanilla and cinnamon flavours clinging tenaciously to the palate. The flavours deepen and build through the finish, which echoes the sexy, exotic oak tones. A must-try for fans of opulent densely packed shiraz." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar “standout Katnook Estate. This flagship bottling from Coonawarra standout Katnook Estate, produced only in top years, recalls cocoa and red currants, with a hint of black pepper." Food & Wine Magazine, USA “soft, lush seductress. A wallow more than a romp, this soft, lush seductress seems all milk chocolate and blackberry nip to begin. By the time you realise there's more and more of the same to come, growing more voluptuous, you realise you're trapped in the golded palace of sin and might just as well stay there, if you can afford it. It's impossibly smooth and easy." Philip White, The Advertiser:
