This is a gutsy red typical of the Margaret River region with a heady aroma of cracked white pepper, dark fruit, and just a hint of chocolate and oak. A full bodied palate balanced by chalky tannins, flavours of pepper, spice and chocolate. Well balanced with good length, this can be enjoyed immediately or cellared for a rainy day.
Awards and Accolades
2013: 93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Good depth to the hue; an unambiguously good wine at this price, with bright and lively spicy red and black fruits, the tannin support just what the doctor ordered. Good now, but will hold for 5+ years."
2012: 94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Good colour; I'm not sure that Margaret River is miles from nowhere, unless it be from Sydney or Melbourne, and Wilyabrup (where the vineyard is) is in the centre of all things Margaret River. This is a complete, medium to full-bodied shiraz, with a show bag full of licorice, spice, red fruits, black fruits and supple tannins. Exceptional value."
From the Winery
A combination of different vineyard blocks make up this blend. The fruit was crushed with the rollers set apart, allowing some berries to remain whole for the ferment. The ferment was allowed to reach a maximum of 28°C during its course. When fermentation was almost complete the wine was pressed and inoculated for malo-lactic fermentation. A combination of French and American oak was used during the maturation of this wine. After approximately 12 months of maturation the wine was racked and blended, before receiving a light egg white fining prior to final filtration and bottling.
