I have a big gem of a wine in 'The Professor Heathcote Shiraz 2011' which is a wine that showcases the strength of Shiraz from this region for a fraction of the price! You know you are in for something special as the crimson/ruby liquid coats the inside of the glass and hangs for a second longer than normal. Big aromatics follow with distinctive leather, cassis, tobacco leaf, pepper and dusty earth.
The Shiraz is rich and still restrained more on the European classic style depicting winemaking skills to be about balance. All intriguing. Begging to be drunk and shared with only your best mates. The palate slowly opens with a full mouth feel, coating your mouth with fresh blackberries, liquorice, blueberries, light tannins and a slight hint of strawberry. The finish is velvety smooth with a layer of delicate tannin that creates a delectable desire for more of this superb wine. A superbly structured and crafted wine that is as good on its own, as it is with a roast of lamb.
