Remember the rip snorting , fresh and zesty Maori Bay as a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, well the 2014 has been sourced from an Australian Halliday awarded vineyard! Steering away from the saturated NZ Savvy market I looked at the best samples this year to move Maori Bay onto the mainland and it has spread its wings and landed in the land of Oz. ( With some pretty amazing results )
This beautifully balanced fresh, unoaked wine displays in the glass with pristine clarity, clear and with a delicate almost lime like hue & lustre. It has an absolutely divine aroma of passion fruit pulp, exotic dragon fruit, gooseberries and fresh pineapple with only a slight hint of herbaceous characters such as capsicum and tomato bush leaves- this is pure fruit-filled joy. Following through onto the palate, the mouth explodes like biting into an overly ripe slice of mango, it is juicy and plump but with a lean acidity that keeps the wine clean and crisp, with a long and lingering refreshing finish that makes each sip anticipate the next!
So if you wish to try another example of mainland Australian Sauvignon Blanc, this little cracker will have you intoxicated for premium wine at an extraordinary price! Cheers.
