Although the 2001 summer temperatures were above average, vintage was interrupted by cool moist conditions. The combination of rain immediately before harvest of Merlot and slightly above average yields resulted in lower than expected grape maturities and necessitated the harvest of Merlot a little earlier than preferred.
Colour: Deep plum reds with garnet tinges.
Nose: Rich in varietal expression, fruit aromas of earth, forest floor, champignons with light plum. Subtle and balanced oak maturation aromas of wood spice, and brambly tones complement the fruit.
Palate: A generously rounded palate structure with earthy tones and subtle vanillin oak. Some ripe berry and plum fruit adds to the middle palate flavour. Balanced acid and soft tannins enhance the lingering flavours on the finish.
