Devlin's Mount Shiraz 2008 |
| |
|
|
Made predominantly from premium single vineyard Shiraz, this blend, just like Grange also contains a smidge of Petit Verdot. The big vintage of 2008 has produced a ripper Devlin's Mount Shiraz that is a blend of the best bits from South Australia's most iconic regions.
Bold, satisfying and heady aromas of dark cherry and subtle black pepper creep from this sultry rich purpley red wine, leading you into a full-bodied berry centric vino, rounded out with fine tanins and the finest of oak integration. All together it has evolved into a satisfying silky wine with tremendous depth and length and really keeps me coming back for another look all the time. For this sort of money, you will be blown away by the quality and coming back for more and more.
2008 was on track to be one of the all time great vintages, until 15 consecutive days of 35 plus degree days accelerated growth and caught many growers off guard. Luckily the fruit for the Devlin's Mount Shiraz was picked just before the heatwave hit. Perfect!
Named after Paddy Devlin, an 1850's grog peddler who made moonshine wine for weary cattlemen, Devlin's Mount is a tribute to those who had an eye, if not the know-how, for the regions wine making potential.
