Tom Carson has been responsible for directing Yering Station’s style of wine. From the first vintage, Yering Station has received international critical acclaim. The 1998 Yering Station Reserve Pinot Noir was awarded the finest Pinot Noir Trophy at the 2000 International Wine Challenge in Tokyo and received gold at the 2000 London International Wine Challenge. The 2000 Yering Station Reserve Pinot Noir was awarded the trophy for Best Pinot at the 2002 International Wine and Spirit competition. In 2002 Tom was named Dux of the Len Evans Tutorial and a further pinnacle in his career was met with a trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition for Best Australian Producer as well as Best International Producer.
In 1995 it was time to move to the tiny Yarra Edge Vineyard where Tom was sole employee of the high quality estate, managing both the winemaking and the vineyard. In mid 1996, after two vintages at Yarra Edge, the opportunity to work with the Rathbone family on their extensive plans for Yering Station was a chance too good to resist.
Tom has now completed ten vintages at Yering Station, but has still managed to return to France to gain valuable insight. In 1996 Tom worked at Champagne Devaux and in 2002 at the Grand Cru Estate, Les Gras and Haas in Chouilly. He also squeezed in a vintage at Domaine Moreau in Chassange Montrachet during the great year, 2000.
Reaching new heights in his career, Tom was nominated for the prestigious Qantas / Australian Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year, 2004 and won the highly acclaimed International Wine and Spirits Winemaker of the Year award in London, 2004. Tom is also a regular judge at the Royal Adelaide, Royal Perth, National and Victorian shows and is panel Chair at Royal Sydney. He has also been a guest judge at the Royal South African Wine Show.
Cellar Release- As they say the really good things in life don't come quickly or free. Here, finally, after careful ageing and cellaring at the tremendous patience of Yering Station we have perfection for this hard to grow Yarra Valley beast that is Merlot. A variety that needs Age and time in this world of now, and yesterday we offer you the perfect aged infant terrible at a price from 8 years ago and lovingly left at peace to mold itself into maturity.
The complex nose displays fragrant blueberry and blackberry aromas with overtones of allspice, dark rose and bitter chocolate Palate The Palate also shows berries and allspice, with a hint on vanilla bean. This medium bodied and smooth wine shows balanced acid and ripe fine silky tannins. It has a long finish and shows great cellaring potential. The long, slow ripening period, combined with low yields provided optimal ripening conditions. Warm days and cool nights allowed maximum fruit flavour development and rich silky tannins.
Enjoy and snap as much of this up as you can!

At 15%Alc/Vol this is a sensatinal blend of Premium fruit from Limestone Coast and Adelaide hills. The 2004 vintage which was cool and dry, providing slow ripening over an extended period. This vintage has been hailed by many to be the absolute ripper and with the ensuing lean years ahead a good suggestion is to rip a few of these dozens into your cellar. This is a complex and beautifully crafted wine. Its bouquet is quintessentially Cabernet Sauvignon. Un-mistakably crafted by experts showing varietal cool-climate in character, revealing its intense blackberries and dark plums, dark olives complemented with subtle cedar/vanilla oak with undertones of aromatic herbaceous qualities. The pallet displays a rich tapestry inn abundance of forest fruits with wonderful hits of sweet cassis. Its tannins are firm and fine-grained which contribute in this wines great balance and elegance. I know you won't be able to help your self but try and put some away as this is seriously great wine and a fraction of the cost. To allow the superb varietal characteristics of this wine to shine we strongly suggest decanting and/or allowing the wine to breath before serving. Rate 95/100 Drink 2010-2022

| A deep ruby colour with bright red hues. A classic year for Cabernet showing a deeply concentrated brooding nose of cassis liqueur, black currents, mulberries, menthol and dark chocolate. The nose is a reflection of the ripeness and generous fruit depth coming from the 2005 vintage. The wine is well balanced with soft supple tannins, sweet fruit and elegant acid structure. The refined palate offers a full bodied rich wine yet well harnessed and controlled by fine chalky tannin structure and raspberry conserve like acid. An opulent and varietal Cabernet that was made possible by near perfect vintage conditions, strategic vineyard selection and blending. This wine is best consumed within 6-8 years from bottling. |
