Here is a goodun! Lovely wine and let me say a great buy!
Lifted blackberry and cassis on the nose. The palate offers sweet fruit flavours with luscious plums and black current with an extra portion of mint distinctively Petit Verdot. Good texture and colour followed with a long persistent finish. Geoff is a member of the fifth generation of the Hardy winemaking family. After studying at Roseworthy College, he set out on a career path as an independent grape grower and viticulturist and bought his first vineyard, Pertaringa, along with Ian Leask in 1980.
Today he oversees a small empire. Home is on the 35 hectare Kuitpo Vineyard, where he produces premium, cooler-climate, dry styles of wines. There are the original McLaren Vale Vineyards (31 hectares), the 160 hectare Wirrega Vineyard near Bordertown (which he bought in with six partners in 1993), and the most recent addition, the Angas Vineyard Joint Venture at Langhorne Creek. It is not only his flair for viticulture that has made him successful, but his ability to initiate and manage a range of ventures simultaneously. The 2004 GMH Red Medley is a blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet and Merlot from the Wirrega Vineyard (Limestone Coast). The grapes are processed at McLaren Vintners. Geoff Hardy is in charge of the wine production and the resulting wines are all of a high standard.
Alrighty! Get on the buzzer and email your mates because this smashing little wine from my mates in Mclaren Vale have given me access once again to a ripper of an export line. A remarkable vintage in 2004 and well known now for producing some very serious weighted Cabernet from this region. I found this little export beauty shares many of the trade mark Coonawarra Cabernet X Factor! Matured for 8 months in French Oak and American barrels this little rip snorter is a rich brick red Cabernet blend with Purple hues and the nose shows hints of lifted blackberry and rich forresty vibrant mouth filling flavours from portions of Merlot and Petit Verdot. This regional example of a wine with richness, purity and fine tannins combine to deliver an opulent mouthfeel along with concentration of color and flavour
